At RGS, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework from England, with thoughtful adaptations to meet the needs and cultural context of Qatar.
Our EYFS curriculum is built around seven key areas of learning and development:
- Communication and Language: We help children develop strong speaking and listening skills through storytelling, role play, discussions, and rich vocabulary experiences that provide a solid foundation for future learning.
- Physical Development: We promote healthy growth and support children in developing both their fine and gross motor skills through active play, outdoor learning, and a wide range of hands-on activities.
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development: We nurture each child’s confidence and sense of self, encourage them to build positive relationships, and guide them in recognising and managing their emotions in a caring and supportive environment.
- Literacy: We foster a love of stories, reading, and early writing. We use Read Write Inc. as our synthetic phonics programme to give children a strong foundation in early reading and spelling skills.
- Mathematics: Children explore numbers, shapes, patterns, and problem-solving in fun and practical ways that make maths meaningful to their everyday experiences.
- Understanding the World: We encourage curiosity as children learn about themselves, their families, and the wider world, laying the foundations for scientific thinking, geography, and cultural understanding.
- Expressive Arts and Design: Through music, art, drama, and movement, children are given rich opportunities to express themselves creatively, develop their imagination, and build confidence.
By following the EYFS framework, we provide a nurturing and stimulating environment where every child can thrive at their own pace.
Each class is led by a dedicated homeroom teacher and a learning assistant, ensuring that learning is personalised and focused on each child’s individual needs and next steps to help them make the best possible progress.
Children also enjoy weekly Arabic and Islamic Studies, along with specialist Music and PE lessons.
Our large outdoor learning areas give children the opportunity to play, explore, and engage in outdoor activities—particularly as the weather cools—helping them to develop a love of active learning both indoors and outdoors.
