Author Visit

Promoting reading has been a whole school focus this year and so we were delighted to welcome award winning author Ruth Eastham to the RGS earlier this week.

Ruth’s books have won many awards. Her debut, The Memory Cage, was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize and nominated for the Carnegie Medal. She is Patron of Reading at schools in both the Midlands and Cheshire in the UK, and has been a speaker at many literature events, including the Edinburgh Book Festival.

The day started with Ruth showing us the first ‘book’ she wrote when she was in primary school! Throughout the day she then spent time with all year groups to support them with their writing and fire their imaginations. Towards the end of the day the school came together to share the work they had completed and received books signed by Ruth herself.

Pupils had a great day working alongside Ruth and hopefully it will inspire them to develop a love for reading and writing.

Art Week 2018

We held an Art Exhibition at the RGS to showcase the wonderful work our pupils completed during our recent Arts Week.

The theme for Arts Week was ‘Famous Artists’ and there was some excellent work on display inspired by well-known artists such as Jackson Pollock, Vincent Van Gogh and Andy Warhol, as well as less familiar names including Sonia Delaunay, Katsushika Hokusai and Niki de Saint Phalle.

Pupils and parents toured the exhibition to view individual and collaborative pieces completed by pupils in Nursery through to Year 6. Later in the day classes had the opportunity to view the exhibition with their teachers and find out more about each artist and their work.

During our assembly groups of pupils talked to us about their artwork and the skills and techniques they had used. We also enjoyed a number of musical pieces from Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 who had worked hard during Arts Week with Mr. Woodhouse.

Thank you to all the parents who came along to support the pupils and a huge well done to our talented pupils who showcased their many talents.
