The RGS achieved another outstanding set of A Level results as, from a cohort of 132 students, over 77% of the grades were secured at A* or A grade and 71 boys achieved the extraordinary accolade of a clean set of A* and A grades. In total, 36% of all grades were A*, compared to the national average of approximately 8%. 30 students from this talented year group received offers from Cambridge and Oxford Universities.
RGS Headmaster, Dr Jon Cox, commented: “Changes to the current A Level system and a move to linear courses have created even greater levels of trepidation among students across the country; however, at the RGS we have always embraced academic rigour and nurtured a love of learning which goes far beyond the confines of the courses, rather than simply preparing students with strategies to pass examinations. The new linear courses have allowed our students to immerse themselves in their subjects, pursue areas of interest and study in greater depth and I am delighted that, despite the anxiety in the media, RGS students have again received an exceptional set of A Level results.
To have achieved such a remarkable percentage of the gold-standard A* grades denotes a consistent performance across the Sixth Form at the very highest level. Supported by inspirational and devoted staff, these results have allowed the boys to secure places on the most challenging courses at the leading universities in the country. Their excellent results are fully deserved and just reward for all their hard work.”
