On Sunday 26th February we launched our very successful ‘Book Week’ at The Royal Grammar School, Guildford in Qatar. Throughout the week we celebrated our love of books and the enjoyment and importance of reading.
Each morning throughout ‘Book Week’ the whole school joined together in the library to share a story read by one of the teachers. We were also delighted to welcome author Hana Rogers to our school who read her fantastic storybook ‘Everyday Wishes’. We were especially grateful to our parents, who came in to the library during the school day to read us our favourite stories.
We also held a number of ‘Book’ competitions. As well as a photographic ‘Guess the Reader’, we also asked all of our pupils to create a story box or story bag to display the characters and themes of their chosen book. The standard of entries was exceptional.
We enjoyed bedtime stories dressed in our pyjamas, searched high and low for missing ‘Superworm’, wrote our own story books, designed a relaxing reading garden and colourful book covers and came to school to celebrate ‘World Book Day’ dressed as our favourite book character. The children were very excited when they arrived at school to be greeted by Scarecrow Downs (our Head of School) and there was lots of excitement when they saw their class teachers and staff in their various costumes.
Well done to everyone, but particularly to our wonderful parents for their help throughout the week.
